INTRODUCTION TO ADOPTING A BIRD FROM A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue…
A-Parrot Rescue adopts PARROTS out to experienced parrot owners only. Small common species of birds are available to most everyone. Please contact us by email first.
(1) Our adoption process starts out with an email interview/chat. We will have introductory questions for you. We do not text interviews. Details are important for us to get to know you. Applications are emailed afterward.
(2) You must be open to answering our questions on email first.
(3) We will explain all that we know about the bird you are interested in.
(4) There are no guarantees on the personality or the health of birds turned over to us. But we make an honest effort to adopt out only visually healthy birds. You are responsible for any later vet visits. If a bird has been vet checked for you, you will receive that info.
IN PERSON VISITING? A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue is unable to consider pre-adoption "visits" until an Adopter's Application has been approved by our Board of Directors.
Instead, our "Virtual" bird tour is on our page at Petfinder.com -- http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?shelterid=OH662 CLICK on the bird's picture for the bird's info.
ADOPTING LARGE PARROTS: If you are interested in adopting a Macaw, Amazon, Eclectus, or Cockatoo, your proof receipt must be for one of these above- listed species.
ADOPTING MEDIUM SIZE PARROTS:
If you are interested in a Conure, you need a proof receipt for a Conure, Quaker, Ringneck, or a larger Parrot.
ADOPTING AFRICAN GREYS:
If you are interested in an African grey, you must have owned a similar size PARROT species, a conure, or a large parrot (with proof of ownership). Note: Everyone wants an African Grey. You need to know that lately we have not been getting many in thru rescue. We may have a waiting list for this species at this time also.
ADOPTING SMALL BIRDS:
We always have budgies in. It is easy to adopt the smaller species of birds. We also have lots of used cages on hand, cheap.
MANDATORY RETURNING A PARROT TO A-PARROT RESCUE:
Our Agency is looking for permanent homes for the parrots left in our care. All parrots must be returned to A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue if they do not work out for our Adopters. The Adoption Contract you will sign commits you to this fact.
SOME ADOPTION QUALIFICATIONS/POLICIES:
(1) We are adopting to you with the condition the parrot will stay in your home under the approved Adopter's care, not be sold, given away, or rehomed by our Adopter or the Adopter’s family at a later date. We try to choose the best adopter for each bird entrusted to our care. Our aim is to try to eliminate the "recycling" of our parrots into improper homes.
(2) Most parrots we get in have have had several homes throughout the years, which is sad. Since parrots do live a long time, the unwanted parrots are always the older ones; i.e., ten years old to 30 years old and older or those that may have a physical flaw or issue. A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue will accept these older birds and is always looking for experienced Adopters who will consider an older parrot.
(3) A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue needs to verify that one is actually an experienced parrot owner Please understand that this is the Internet and we do not know you.
(4) A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue does not adopt out parrots as gifts for children or to adults who have never owned a parrot before. We need to interview the person who is actually adopting the bird from us.
(5) We may ask for a proof receipt that you have owed a parrot before. The receipt needs the species of the bird on it. Our email interview will tell you if/when we need this receipt. We are looking for adults who have actually LIVED with a parrot in their home.
(6) Bands must not be cut off any bird’s leg. This is your legal proof ID that the bird is yours in case you lose it. We record a copy of the band also.
(7) FINAL ADOPTION APPROVALS: Our Board of Directors makes all final adoption decisions. A-Parrot Rescue reserves the right to turn down an Applicant. Our policies may change without notice.
(8) Other adoption policies and qualifications apply. Our "email interview/chat" explains more. (9) If you need a nice cage, we have several used cages on hand, cheap.
QUICK ADOPTIONS?: In a hurry to obtain a parrot? Want to adopt a parrot NOW, or by this weekend????? Our screening process will take longer than that. People who are really sincere about obtaining a rescue parrot will not mind the slight delay so A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue can get to know you and about your bird experience. Most Applications have been approved, but our Board will still need to read over your Application first.
Everyone must follow our specific email interview process to be fair to all Applicants. We do not interview by phone or text.
If you feel you qualify to adopt one of the parrots from A-Parrot to A-Flamingo Rescue, after reading the info on this page, please email our interviewer to start our email chat. We are looking forward to meeting you via email !
